These book covers have been carefully handmade with Japanese Chiyogami, a beautiful decorative paper which features intricate and vibrant designs that first emerged in Kyoto during the Edo period. Paper-makers in Japan started printing with woodblocks and over time transitioned into silk-screen printing when the technology arrived from China after the Song Dynasty. This traditional technique is still used today, as the unique tactile character and brilliance of silk-screening methods cannot be matched by modern digital printing.
